The developer proposes to demolish the house on this site and to construct a two-storey building comprising ground-floor retail units with apartments at first-floor level. An assessment was required as part of further information. Part of the development site is located to the west of the motte and bailey, immediately on the edge of the fosse of the motte. Two trenches were excavated between the development site and the fosse of the motte and bailey. No archaeological material was exposed. It has not been possible to test the rest of the site until the standing house is demolished.
