Testing was undertaken in May on a site at Rathmae, Oldcastle, as part of an assessment in advance of the construction of a single dwelling. There are several RMP sites in the vicinity, including ME014–008, an enclosure, and ME014–007, a ringfort. Four test-trenches were excavated on the site. The general soil profile was 0.2–0.3m of sod and dark-brown silty clay topsoil, and red/brown silty clay subsoil.
Testing disclosed no material of an archaeological nature. The assessment required that any part of the development be kept a minimum of 20m from ME014–007.
