Testing was undertaken as part of an assessment of a proposed development that would consist of mixed commercial and residential units at the site of the former Tara Cash and Carry, Bective Street, Kells, Co. Meath, a probable location of a part of the medieval town wall. Testing took place over three days, 14–16 July 2006. Six trenches were excavated. The site was very disturbed, with 1–2m of modern dump material in each trench. Three sides of a large concrete wall were uncovered as well as a large post-medieval stone box drain. There was no evidence of the medieval town wall or any other archaeological features or artefacts. The east–west burgage plot boundary visible on site may have been the only surviving remains of the town wall and it was recommended that this be marked in some way.
