This site was located within Contract 3 (Navan bypass) of the proposed M3 Clonee to north of Kells motorway and was identified during advance testing by Aidan O’Connell in May 2004 (Excavations 2004, No. 1241, 04E0578). Full resolution in 2006 revealed a single pit (1.1m by 0.65m by 0.32m) with burnt stone and charcoal in its fills, north-west/south-east plough furrows, two field drains and a field boundary. Four irregular depressions filled with compact medium-grey clay containing burnt stone and occasional charcoal flecks have been interpreted as tree-root disturbance in the distant past.
