An assessment of this site at Dowth, Co. Meath, was carried out prior to submitting an application to the planning authority to construct a dwelling house with detached garage on the site, which lies just outside the constraint of ME019–066, classified as the ‘archaeological complex’ at Dowth/Roughgrange. There are standing stones in the fields west of the site (ME019–053 and 019–055). The complex of prehistoric monuments at Dowth lies to the north-east.
Seven trenches tested the footprint of the proposed house, along with the driveway and garage. The proposed location for the percolation area had already been excavated to investigate the drainage potential of the area and the test-pit was examined. No features of archaeological interest were observed in any of the trenches or the test-pit. No artefacts were recovered.
