Testing was carried out at St Mary’s Gaelic Football Club, Stalleen, in the parish of Donore, Co. Meath, on 10 October 2006. The grounds of the club are located on the south-east side of the River Boyne within sight of the tumuli of Newgrange and Dowth. There are no known archaeological sites recorded within the proposed development site. In advance of the erection of new floodlights, six test-pits, measuring 2.5m by 2.5m and between 1.5–1.7m deep, were excavated by machine. All the test-pits were dug through made-up ground that had been introduced to the site when it was originally developed in the 1980s. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were discovered during the course of the excavation of the test-pits.
