This site was located within Contract 5 (Kells to north of Kells) of the proposed M3 Clonee to north of Kells motorway and was identified during advance testing by David Bayley (Excavations 2004, No. 1205, 04E1054). Full resolution in October 2006 revealed three separate areas of burnt-mound activity. The first comprised five shallow pits filled with burnt-mound material. Three pits, one rectangular and two circular, that may have functioned as troughs represent Area 2, while a burnt mound (Area 3) situated 3m to the south of these consisted of a shallow mound of heat-shattered stone with a diameter of c. 10m. At least one trough was sealed by this burnt mound, but, due to consistent flooding, the site has been abandoned until the water level of the neighbouring pond subsides. Areas 1 and 2 have been fully excavated.
