This site was located within Contract 3 (Navan bypass) of the proposed M3 Clonee to north of Kells motorway and was identified during advance testing by Neil Fairburn between April and May 2004 (Excavations 2004, No. 1190, 04E0580). Full resolution between July and August 2006 revealed a spread of fire-cracked sandstone, charcoal-stained clay and charcoal flecks overlying a spread of silty clay. A rectangular trough (1m by 1m by 0.48m) containing the fragmented remains of wooden planks was exposed beneath the clay spread. An irregular-shaped shallow pit was filled with burnt-mound material. The site was bordered to the north by a stream. These features represent the remains of a burnt mound.
