This site was located within Contract 3 (Navan bypass) of the proposed M3 Clonee to north of Kells motorway and was identified during advance testing by Neil Fairburn between April and May 2004 (Excavations 2004, No. 1190, 04E0580) after a geophysical anomaly was observed during the Bartlett-Clark Consultancy survey (2002). Full resolution that took place between July and August 2006 revealed an area (6m by 7m by 0.6m) of fire-cracked sandstone and charcoal-stained clay with charcoal flecks. This spread was contained within a large pit feature that filled with water and may represent a well. Two stake-holes were discovered in its base. Other features included two small shallow pits (1.97m by 0.9m by 0.3m and 1.5m by 1.5m by 0.09m), both filled with burnt stone. The spreads and fills are characteristic of a burnt-mound site.
