This site was excavated between 8 and 12 May 2006. It was newly identified during archaeological monitoring (A020/075) of topsoil removal. It consisted of a shallow spread of burnt stone and charcoal with three associated pits cut into the subsoil. It was located at 70m OD and was 20m east of the structures excavated under A020/029 (see No. 1473, Excavations 2006).
The spread of burnt stone and charcoal measured 3.5m by 5.5m and was 0.1m thick. It was probably the levelled remains of a larger mound. The pits were filled with burnt stone and charcoal-stained silty sand. The largest pit was 1.28m in diameter by 0.25m deep. The second was oval in plan and measured 1.3m by 1.55m by 0.12m deep. The smallest pit was circular in plan with a diameter of 0.9m and a depth of 0.05m and contained a chert blade.
