Monitoring of all foreshore excavation was undertaken during construction work required for a slipway on the northern side of an existing pier. Excavation to a depth of c. 2m was required for foundations of retaining walls. The pier is located c. four miles from Newport and is located at the north-eastern extremity of Clew Bay at the terminal point of the road on which the tower of Carrig an Chabhlaigh, or Rockfleet Castle, is located. No archaeological finds or features were noted during the course of monitoring for this development.
