Excavation was undertaken on this feature on 24–30 May 2006. The site was newly identified during the monitoring of topsoil removal (A020/075) and was fully excavated in advance of the construction of the N5 Charlestown bypass. The site was located on the east-facing slope of a gentle hill bordering a north–south orientated stream. It consisted of a small spread of burnt material measuring 5.5m east–west by 4m by 0.02–0.29m thick. The main deposit was a compact silty clay with moderate inclusions of fire-cracked stones. On the east side of the spread a disturbed deposit of redeposited subsoil, topsoil and stones was excavated. A small cut feature was identified under the mound. The cut was subrectangular in plan and measured 1.75m north–south by 1.6m by 0.2–0.37m deep. It had a single fill, which was identical to the spread material.
