Testing was undertaken on this site on 5–7 September 2005 to ascertain its archaeological potential as specified in the EIA. The feature was located at an altitude of 114m OD. A hand-dug test-trench was opened across the mound, which measured 5m north–south by 1.5m by 0.4–0.7m deep. Modern pottery and glass were recovered from the deposits of the trench. A blue glass bead was recovered from the south-west corner of the test-trench in the topsoil deposit. Further investigation did not identify any feature or deposit of archaeological interest and the bead is an unstratified/stray find. The feature is considered to be upcast from either the excavation of the adjacent north–south-orientated land drain or subsequent cleaning of the drain. The reminder of the mound was removed by a 360° tracked machine with a 2m-wide toothless bucket under archaeological supervision. No features of archaeological significance were identified.
