Excavation was undertaken on this feature from 26 October to 2 November 2005. The site was newly identified during centreline testing (A020/003) and was fully excavated in advance of the construction of the N5 Charlestown bypass. The feature was located in low-lying marshy ground at an altitude of 106.14m OD and 10m north of A020/041 (see No. 1425, Excavations 2006). It was bordered by a south-south-west/north-north-east-orientated ridge to the north and higher drier ground to the south. The spread was an irregular shape and consisted of fire-cracked stones in a silty loam matrix. It measured 4m north-east/south-west by 2.05m east–west by 0.09–0.13m thick. The deposit lay directly on the natural subsoil. No other features of archaeological interest were identified.
