Monitoring for the Ballina main drainage scheme took place adjacent to a national monument, a megalithic tomb (unclassified), in the south-east sector of Ballina town. A sewage pipe was placed in the road beside the monument, though at a much lower level than the archaeological remains. All soil levels above subsoil had been previously removed by road construction and nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
