Monitoring of groundworks associated with a proposed residential development at Whiterath, Co. Louth, was undertaken in response to a planning condition. The proposed development area lies directly south-west of and adjacent to two sites previously excavated by Cóilín Ó Drisceoil, Whiterath 1 (Excavations 2000, 720, 99E0484) and Whiterath 2 (Excavations 2000, 721, 99E0485).
Possible prehistoric/Early Christian pottery was recovered from an amorphous spread, 6mm deep, of mid-greyish-brown stony clay with occasional flecks and pieces of charcoal. However, this feature was isolated and fully excavated in an effort to establish its date and/or function. No further archaeological interventions were necessary.
