This phase of testing follows on from previous testing carried out by Fintan Walsh in 2002 (Excavations 2002, No. 1348). This revealed a series of spreads, layers and linear features of probable early medieval date, the possible remains of a burnt mound and a pit. No evidence of the possible souterrain site (LH012–008) was uncovered during the testing programme. It is possible that this monument lies outside the limits of the areas tested.
As development has yet to take place on Area B (subjected to testing by Walsh in 2002), excavation was recommended in the areas of archaeological material highlighted by the testing results, if development is proposed in these areas.
Some 33 trenches, totalling 1070.04m, were excavated in 2006 within the remaining area of proposed development, but these trenches did not reveal any archaeological features or deposits.
