Monitoring was carried out ahead of the establishment of a site compound for the south–north gas pipeline project. A greenfield area measuring 125m by 150m was stripped immediately to the west of the pipeline corridor in Dromgoolestown, Co. Louth. Monitoring took place on 11–27 January. The site is bounded on the north by the River Dee and to the south by the route of the defunct Great Northern Railway route. Topsoil was removed using a combination of a mechanical excavator with a flat toothless bucket and a bulldozer. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in this area.
