In October 2006 a programme of test-trenching was undertaken at a proposed development site at 11 Trinity Street, Drogheda, Co. Louth. Four linear test-trenches of varying lengths were excavated throughout the site using a tracked machine with a grading bucket. The soils uncovered were found to be largely uniform throughout the site. The exposed trench sections generally revealed a layer of reinforced concrete above a deposit of rubble and soil, which in turn overlay yellow boulder clay. In all the excavated trenches the subsoil was found to be uniform and archaeologically sterile, with no subsoil-cut features. No archaeological features, artefacts or deposits were identified in any of the four trenches during the testing programme.
