Monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of a proposed parochial hall building at St Peter’s Church, Magdalene Street (Moneymore), Drogheda, was carried out in October 2006. Eight foundation trenches were excavated and the only archaeological feature exposed was the remains of a potential kiln. This was exposed in section alongside the original foundations of the old parish hall. Numerous sherds of medieval pottery, many from the kiln, were recovered from the base of the foundation trench. These included body sherds of green-glazed pottery with light-orange fabric, fragments of pipkin footings, kiln fragments, tile-mould fragments and body sherds of green-glazed Saintonge ware. As the proposed development would have a direct impact on the kiln, excavation of the feature was recommended. This was carried out under an extension to the existing licence in January 2007.
