Port Oriel Harbour is currently being upgraded by the Department of Marine. The development includes the extension of the pier (constructed in 1880) and dredging of the harbour basin to –7.2m OD. Underwater assessment was undertaken of dredging operations, which commenced in February and continued on an intermittent basis until they were completed in September 2007. The dredged materials were a mix of gravel and sand. Modern fishing debris, including timbers from a modern wooden boat and anchors, were recorded. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded while monitoring.
