Testing was undertaken at Tennalough, Carrickboy, Co. Longford, in late February 2006 in advance of the commencement of groundworks associated with the extension of an existing limestone quarry. An enclosure (LF023–020) is located c. 65m to the north-west of the development area. The programme of testing comprised the excavation of thirteen trenches, excavated parallel to each other across the development area. No subsurface archaeological features or deposits and no artefactual material were uncovered during the course of such testing.
It is also a condition that all topsoil-stripping associated with the development should be carried out under supervision. Such work commenced in March 2006 and will be undertaken on a phased basis.
