A single post-medieval linear drain was discovered in Richhill townland during monitoring of topsoil-stripping for the N7 Nenagh bypass. Excavation on this was carried out in December 2006. The site, which was located adjacent to the N7 on the western side of the road, measured 10m by 10m. The drain extended under the north-north-east and south-south-west baulks and so the full extent was unrecorded. It measured 1.28m north-north-east to south-south-west and was 0.54m in depth. No artefacts were found. Post-excavation analysis and reporting is ongoing.
This project was funded by the Irish government and the European Union through Limerick County Council and the National Roads Authority and under the National Development Plan 2000–2006. It forms part of the road scheme to upgrade the N7 Limerick to Nenagh high-quality dual carriageway.
