This site was identified during Phase II test excavation of the N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown road improvement scheme carried out in May 2006. The site was subsequently excavated between 7 and 14 July 2006. The site, which was topsoil-stripped under supervision, consisted of four curvilinear shallow narrow ditches, which appeared to form an enclosure c. 14.5m in diameter. Slag fragments and a blue glass bead were retrieved from the ditches. A possible structure was identified in the centre of the enclosure. A furnace bowl was identified within this possible structure, which produced a large amount of metal slag. A pit located to the east of this structure produced a whetstone and a possible stone awl.
