An assessment, including testing, of a site at Gotoon, Kilmallock, was undertaken by Ciara Brett in 2005 in advance of the construction of a Limerick County Council machinery yard (Excavations 2005, No. 996). The licence was subsequently transferred and extended to cover the monitoring of groundworks on the site in April 2006. The site is 600m south-east of the historic town of Kilmallock (LI047–022) and lies partially within the zone of archaeological potential of an enclosure and castle (LI047–026(01, 02)). No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered.
