Testing had already been undertaken in advance of a housing development immediately outside a previously agreed buffer zone around the monastic complex element of the RMP at Dromdarrig, Mungret (Excavations 2003, No. 1158). This testing assessed an area 10m within the agreed buffer zone, which was proposed for the repositioning of a new access road. Four trenches were excavated along the line of the proposed access road. Trenches 3 and 4 revealed three features interpreted as being archaeological. These features were preserved in situ and the road was not repositioned.
