Testing was undertaken in advance of a housing development located in the centre of the town overlooking The Quay to the west. The site consisted of a flat-topped rock outcrop, which overlooked flat low-lying ground to the north-east. The site had been quarried in the past and this was most evident at the south-west face of the rock outcrop, where a number of hollow areas were noted cut into the rock face. A low curving bank was noted at the top of the slope on the north-east side of the plateau. This bank may have defined an access track relating to the quarrying of stone in the past. A fragment of a post-medieval wig curler was recovered from the topsoil during the testing.
