A programme of archaeological excavations was undertaken as part of the N4 Dromod Roosky bypass at the request of Leitrim County Council. In total, 25 potential archaeological sites were identified during centreline testing as part of the advance archaeological investigation (see No. 1214, Excavations 2006, 05E0983).
The excavation at Cloonturk 1 revealed post-medieval activity, with several features possibly being of an older date. The site had been severely disturbed by machine at some stage in the recent past, probably as part of land-improvement works. A leaf-shaped arrowhead was uncovered during testing from a very thin spread of charcoal. Excavation did not reveal any further prehistoric features.
