A programme of archaeological excavations was undertaken as part of the N4 Dromod Roosky bypass at the request of Leitrim County Council. In total, 25 potential archaeological sites were identified during centreline testing as part of the advance archaeological investigation (see No. 1214, Excavations 2006, 05E0983).

Clooncolry 3 consisted of a ruined stone farmhouse and outbuilding, possibly dating from the 19th century. The building is almost completely flattened, apart from the western gable and a small portion of the north-facing side wall; the remains of its southern end was completely covered in brambles, and ivy concealed half of the gable end, which was the only thing keeping it standing. The outhouse had been demolished and is now completely overgrown. A small millstone was uncovered from the northern side of the house during the testing phase of archaeological investigations. The aim of the archaeological investigations was primarily to establish details of the construction and extent of the building.
