This site was excavated in April 2006 as part of the programme of resolution of archaeological sites on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. The work was carried out on behalf of Laois County Council and the National Roads Authority.
It comprised one fulacht fiadh and a spread of burnt material located c. 50m apart. Area 1 comprised of a thin spread of burnt-mound material measuring 2.42m by 2.68m by 0.08m in depth. There were no other associated features.
Area 2 comprised a trough and four associated burnt spreads. The oval trough measured 1.8m by 1.22m by 0.64m in depth. It was filled with layers of silt, sand and charcoal-rich deposits. The thin burnt-stone spreads were in all probability one spread, but intensive agricultural activity and modern disturbance had truncated much of it.
Samples from this site are currently undergoing analysis.
