This site was located within Contract 2 of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme and was identified during advance testing by Robert O’Hara (Excavations 2005, No. 859, A015/029). Full resolution occurred in April 2006. Corraun 3 comprised the remnants of a fulacht fiadh consisting of a mid-sized spread of burnt-mound material and four associated cut features, one of which may have functioned as a trough. No artefacts were found in association with any of the features/deposits exposed on site. Soil, charcoal, burnt stone and animal-bone samples currently await analysis.
