This site was located within Contract 2 of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme and was identified during advance testing by Robert O’Hara (Excavations 2005, No. 873, A015/030). Topsoil-stripping of Corraun 1 in March 2006 did not reveal any archaeological features or deposits. Following this, the site was cleaned by hand in case any faint traces of archaeological deposits were visible on site. This clean-back confirmed that the site was completely sterile.
