This site was located within Contract 3 of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme and was identified by Aidan O’Connell during advance testing in March–April 2005 (Excavations 2005, No. 871, A015/051). It was excavated on behalf of Laois County Council, funded by the National Roads Authority, during April 2006.

Investigation of thirteen deposits of black peaty clay revealed evidence for recent agricultural activity including field clearance and drainage work, but nothing of archaeological significance. One sherd of 19th-century transfer-printed pottery was found in the peat along the northern margin of the site.
