This site was excavated in May 2006 as part of the programme of resolution of archaeological sites on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. The work was carried out on behalf of Laois County Council and the National Roads Authority.
The remains of two oval structures were represented by 46 post-holes. One structure possibly overlies the other; however, the area was very badly truncated by post-medieval furrows. The entrance to the structures was at the south-west and each had an external porch of four posts. No evidence for a hearth was found. Two stake-holes were also found within the structures and may have formed some type of internal division.
A sherd of pottery was found within a post-hole and preliminary analysis indicated it might date to the Bronze Age.
Samples from this site are currently undergoing analysis.
