Pre-development testing was carried out on the site of a proposed cattle house at Camross, Co. Laois, on 14 August 2006. The south part of the site lies within the area of constraint around the village of Camross, which is classified, somewhat dubiously, as the site of a possible 17th-century village. Testing comprised the excavation of two trenches on the footprint of the proposed building. A thin topsoil layer, 0.2m in thickness, overlay orange/brown silty sand subsoil in both trenches. No archaeological material was uncovered.
