This site was excavated on 6 July 2006 as part of the programme of resolution of archaeological sites on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. The work was carried out on behalf of Laois County Council and the National Roads Authority.
This site consisted of a tree bole. Its dimensions were 2.2m by 1.6m by 0.26m deep and it was filled by a mid-brown/grey gravelly soil that contained frequent angular stones. No other inclusions were uncovered. The natural subsoil varied from mid-grey gravelly clay to grey gravel and sandstone. The topsoil consisted of a mid- to dark-brown gravelly clay measuring 0.34 in depth. No other features were found.
