This site was located within Contract 2 of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme and was identified during advance testing by Robert O’Hara (Excavations 2005, No. 859, A015/029). Full resolution of the site occurred in July 2006 and revealed two separate ploughed-out fulachta fiadh with associated outlier pits. A possibly unrelated pit containing sherds of prehistoric pottery, flint and a knapping stone was also present within the site. The site was divided into four zones for ease of recording; a stream separated Zone A (outlier pits) from Zones B (fulacht fiadh No. 1), C (fulacht fiadh No. 2) and D (outlier pits).
Soil and charcoal samples currently await analysis.
