Excavation of an area measuring 20m by 20m at this location revealed a single pit that had been identified during testing along the route of the M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. The pit was subrectangular in outline and measured 1.6m north–south by 0.9m by 0.09m deep. It contained a single fill of charcoal-rich soil. It is most likely that the pit had been used for charcoal production. No additional features or finds were recovered during excavation of the area. Post-excavation analysis of this site is still ongoing.
