This bog was scheduled to be surveyed as part of the 2006 Peatland Survey, which concentrated on Bord na Móna’s Littleton group of bogs. Ballysorrell Bog is located 3km west of Templetouhy village and measures 162ha in size. As with the other bogs in the Littleton group, this bog was prepared for development in the mid-1970s. Production started in 1980 but only continued for two seasons. The bog was too overgrown to facilitate archaeological survey and shall be returned to when production resumes in the next few years.
