The site was excavated in June 2006 as part of the programme of resolution of archaeological sites on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme.
Topsoil-stripping of the site revealed two small spreads of burnt stone c. 0.1m deep, one stretching for 6m along the edge of a stream that formed the southern boundary of the site. Burnt stone was also noted incorporated into the field boundary to the immediate south of the stream. An oval pit measuring 1.1m by 0.9m and 0.3m deep was found underneath one of the spreads. The pit was filled with burnt stone and was probably a boiling trough. The features probably represent the remnants of a small fulacht fiadh that was cut through by the digging of the stream and the construction of the field boundary. No trace of the fulacht fiadh was found to the south of the field boundary.
