The site was excavated in June 2006 as part of the programme of resolution of archaeological sites on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme.
Topsoil-stripping revealed two small spreads of burnt stone c. 0.15m deep. A modern field drain running across the site indicated modern land reclamation in the area. Several cut features found under the burnt-stone spreads were found, on investigation, to be non-archaeological. No trough was located. The burnt spreads were probably the remnants of a fulacht fiadh that had been destroyed by land-drainage works.
