An assessment of a residential development at Commons, Knocktopher, Co. Kilkenny, was carried out. The site was an area of high archaeological potential, given its location within the area of constraint of KK031–017, ‘Town’, and within the zone of archaeological potential as indicated in the Urban Archaeological Survey of Kilkenny. Within a kilometre of the development area are the sites of a medieval church and graveyard, four castles, a motte, a friary, a medieval road site, a holy well and a possible fording point. A field ditch not marked on the first-edition OS map was the only discovery of note. It was recommended that the groundworks for the development be monitored.
