The excavations at Knockmoylan, sites E2511, E3008 and E3009, were undertaken as part of the archaeological programme for the N9/N10 Waterford to Powerstown road scheme.

E3008 consisted of a large field boundary ditch that ran in a north-east/south-west direction through the site. The ditch length within the site was c. 24.5m, width c. 1.5m and depth c. 0.23m. The field boundary was also visible on the first-edition OS map. The field boundary cut through a curvilinear slot/foundation trench that was located in the western part of the site. This feature had a north-east/south-west measurement of 2.6m by 1.2m. The foundation trench itself had a width of 0.2m and maximum depth of 0.1m. The curvilinear feature may represent a possible temporary shelter, perhaps associated with the cist burials at AR036 (see No. 1075, Excavations 2006). Directly behind the curvilinear feature was a small disturbed pit, which had a diameter of 0.7m and was 0.3m deep.
