The excavations at Knockmoylan, sites E2511, E3008 and E3009, were undertaken as part of the archaeological programme for the N9/N10 Waterford to Powerstown road scheme.
E2511 consisted of four shallow pits. Three of these pits were subrectangular in shape and the fourth was subcircular. No artefacts were recovered from any of the pits and only two contained charcoal. All showed evidence of root damage, which meant that the charcoal from the pits could have been intrusive. It is possible that the pits were for refuse from some structure or structures outside the main excavation area, possibly from the farm buildings currently in use to the west of the site.
