This bog was surveyed as part of the 2006 Peatland Survey, which concentrated on Bord na Móna’s (BnM) Littleton group of bogs and straddles counties Kilkenny and Tipperary. Derryville Bog contains the tailings pond for the Minorco Lisheen Zinc mine in its southern extent, where extensive excavation work was carried out by Margaret Gowen & Co. in the late 1990s. The northern extent of the bog (140ha) remains in BnM peat production. Twelve sites were recorded during the course of the survey, comprising three plank trackways, two roundwood trackways, four platforms and seven sightings of archaeological wood. Six of the sites were dated and the dates ranged from 2470–2140 bc to 780–370 bc.
