An archaeological assessment was carried out of an extension to a cattle shed at Castle Eve, Earlstown, Co. Kilkenny. The development is located 53m west of Castle Eve castle: a late medieval tower-house and bawn, site of a 16th/17th-century manor house, residence of the Sweetman family. The development site and the monument are located on a ridge of dry ground overlooking the Kings River. The test-trenches were excavated in the areas of greatest disturbance: two subsurface tanks for a slotted unit either side of a cattle shed built about thirty years ago. Two test-trenches were excavated. Trench 1, in a greenfield, was excavated to subsoil. Trench 2, in a concrete yard, found significant disturbance arising from the construction of the adjacent cattle shed. No features of archaeological significance or artefacts were uncovered.
