A programme of testing was undertaken at a single-house development at Whitechurch, Straffan. The development area is located adjacent to an archaeological complex, comprising a church and graveyard, enclosure(s) and field system. Aerial photographs indicate possible subsurface remains of a field system within the overall site and to the south-east of the proposed house.
Two trenches were excavated within the site and nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered. It was subsequently recommended by the DoEHLG that, in the event of planning permission being granted for the development, all topsoil-stripping should be monitored.
