The site was excavated as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme: Kilcullen to Powerstown. A burnt mound measuring 10m long (north–south), 7m wide and c. 0.22m deep was excavated. This revealed ten pits of varied size, all containing similar burnt material and heat-affected sandstone. These pits were located slightly upslope of the level of groundwater in the area. Two of the pits contained prehistoric pottery, which is uncommon for this type of feature. The site is located in the south-western corner of a field and has been truncated heavily on two sides by drainage channels and modern road-building activity.
