Monitoring of topsoil-stripping was undertaken at the site of a single-house development at Kilteel. The site is immediately outside the zone of archaeological potential established for Kilteel. This zone forms the limit to lands designated as a national monument (Ref: 275). There are a number of individual monuments located within the zone, with a gatehouse (KD020–006) being the closest to the development site. The site was previously subjected to testing undertaken by Emma Devine (Excavations 2005, No. 761, 05E0681).
All topsoil-stripping required of the development was undertaken using an excavator fitted with a toothless grading bucket. A total of twenty sherds of pottery were recovered. Analysis of the pottery, undertaken by Clare McCutcheon, indicated that fourteen sherds were of medieval date, including Leinster cooking ware, Dublin-type coarseware and Dublin-type fine ware, with the remainder of post-medieval date.
