Centreline testing was carried out along the intended 1.2km stretch of the Naas southern ring road, Phase I, Naas, Co. Kildare, between 12 and 14 December 2005 on behalf of Kildare Co. Council. Work commenced 210m south of the Newbridge Road, outside the Jigginstown Castle preservation order area, and continued to the Kilcullen Road, south of Naas town centre. A total of 2200 linear metres of test-trenches were excavated to the underlying natural subsoil. No sites or material of archaeological potential were identified.
The eastern end of the route at the Kilcullen Road was not available for test-trenching due to the presence of numerous live services. Monitoring of topsoil-stripping at the construction stage has been recommended at this location.

Editor’s note: Although this licence was issued during 2005, the report on the work was not received in time for inclusion in the bulletin of that year.
